Executive Order 13693
The goal of Executive Order 13693: Planning for Federal Sustainability in the Next Decade is to reduce agency direct greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40 percent over the next decade while at the same time fostering innovation, reducing spending, and strengthening the communities in which Federal facilities operate. The Order reiterates that it continues to be the policy of the United States that agencies shall increase efficiency and improve their environmental performance.
Executive Order 13693 Planning for Federal Sustainability in the Next Decade was published March 2015. Among other requirements, it states that if an agency operates a fleet of 20 vehicles or more, it must deploy telematics at the asset level for all new passenger and light duty vehicles and for medium duty vehicles (where appropriate) no later than 2 years after the date of the order. It further states that agency annual asset level fleet data will be accounted for in a formal agency Fleet Management System and relevant data will be submitted to the Federal Automotive Statistical Tool reporting database.
With respect to GPS tracking and fleet telematics, Executive Order 13693 mandates, as part of this Order, that any agency with a fleet of at least 20 vehicles must:
